Summary

About the Proposal

Climate Resilient Communities is seeking expressions of interest from professional development providers to customise and deliver a short course on climate fundamentals for development practitioners.

The overall purpose of the short course is to enhance knowledge, understanding, and practice to deliver impact and sustainable climate-ready programs in the Indo-Pacific region. This practitioner-level course will refresh and deepen participants’ understanding of climate change and disaster resilience, with a practical focus on exploring risks, opportunities, impacts and trends in sector-specific contexts. Expert instructors will help to translate the latest climate science and policy into development-relevant insights, introducing participants to tools, skills and approaches to integrate climate change and disaster resilience considerations into their work.

The primary audience for the short course is Australian government staff, based both in Australia and across the Indo-Pacific region. At the practitioner level, the aim of the course is to provide participants with in-depth knowledge and skills required to enhance their climate change-related practice.

The course will be delivered face-to-screen (live online sessions) over 3 x half-day training blocks, with the flexibility to deliver face-to-face as a secondary option. The design should allow for repeat deliveries and be adaptable by geographic region or sector focus to suit different learner cohorts. The course should include a practical component, such as an exercise or scenario, to apply learning and practice skills.

Providers may propose:

  • Tailoring or adapting existing short courses/professional learning (encouraged, where feasible), or
  • Designing a new bespoke course that offers clear added value
