We are looking for a highly professional Socio-Economic Specialist to work with the Ministry of Finance, Government of Tuvalu. This position is for up to six months for the provision of advisory services and to review the cost of living in Tuvalu. Completion of this review will enable the Government to make informed decisions and recommendations to address issues related to the cost of living in Tuvalu and broadly achieving socio-economic outcomes relevant to Tuvalu's context.

The Partnerships Platform is seeking an experienced and motivated Socio-Economic Specialist with a proven track record preparing socio-economic reviews, and conducting strategic policy focused financial planning to support fiscally achievable economic and social development outcomes. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, respectful, flexible and resilient Socio-Economic Specialist with a keen focus on providing advisory services and reviewing the cost of living in Tuvalu or a similar economy.

The role of Socio-Economic Specialist under the Ministry of Finance will be responsible for conducting a comprehensive review of the Country's taxation regime, price control regulations, freight costs, and developing actionable recommendations to address the cost-of-living challenges, social inclusion and economic equity.

Focus areas are:
• Consult with all relevant stakeholders and gather information and data relevant to the review.
• Ensure regular discussions are carried out during the consultancy period to ensure that the review findings reflect the actual context of Tuvalu.
• Analyse and consolidate information and data gathered for the review.
• Support the development of quality and timely implementation of deliverables expected in the terms of reference, to ensure the whole review is reflective of priorities, strategies and opportunities are inclusive and relevant for Tuvalu in future years.
• Coordinate inputs from relevant Government of Tuvalu policy, strategic and operational areas into the review.
• Identify opportunities to promote the Government of Tuvalu's priorities to existing and new audiences, through different platforms and networks.

The position is a 6-month posting with the option to extend. A competitive international standard remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidate, including housing, and return airfares if required for international candidates.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂
We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate a high degree of flexibility, respect, resilience and adaptability, and a preparedness to work with limited resources in a challenging environment; this includes the ability to successfully build and manage relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you will have tertiary qualifications in tax, economics, finance, commerce or public financial management or a related discipline with proven experience in a technical position preparing socio-economic reviews and strategic policy focused financial planning to support fiscally achievable economic and social development outcomes., including demonstrated knowledge of commitment to meet with stakeholders, gather information and data to inform the review of the cost of living in Tuvalu. Experience in working in Tuvalu or Pacific Island Countries will be highly valued.

You will be required to demonstrate a strong understanding of, and commitment to Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), child protection and the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH), anti-corruption and other DFAT safeguarding policies.
