The Prosecution Advisor will support the Australia-PNG Law & Justice Partnership (APLJ) to achieve the Government of PNG’s (GoPNG’s) national goals related to anti-corruption by strengthening administration and accountability mechanisms.
Location Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (PNG), with periodic travel to other locations.
Duration 2 years initial contract (6-month probation period) with the possibility of extension, dependent on performance and program requirements.
About the Program
APLJ is the next phase of Australia’s investment in strengthening the delivery of law and justice services in Papua New Guinea 2024-27.
APLJ seeks to contribute to PNG’s law and justice sector capacity to provide inclusive, safe, secure and accountable law and justice foundations for peaceful and prosperous communities, equitable economic development and private sector growth.
The program aligns with GoPNG’s law and justice sector goal of ‘building peaceful and prosperous communities together’.
APLJ has a strong focus on addressing gender equality, disability equity and social inclusion (GEDSI). This includes continued and strengthened attention to gender-based violence and strengthened opportunities for women in leadership, as well as increased focus on the engagement of persons with a disability and other particularly marginalised populations.
The program will employ robust MERLA methodology to assess APLJ progress and performance, drive knowledge and learning, and promote continuous improvement.
The Role
GoPNG has identified law and order, combating corruption, and reducing violence against women as national development priorities. PNG’s strategic frameworks prioritise reducing crime and social unrest as the foundation for improving economic and social development. The Prosecution Advisor – Anti-Corruption will support APLJ in achieving these goals by coaching, mentoring, and developing the capacity of individual counterparts in the sector.
