The Role
The Program Coordinator (Alumni Engagement & Short Courses) is responsible for coordinating a portfolio of alumni engagement initiatives and short course activities. The Coordinator contributes to the Program’s cross‑cutting workstreams, ensuring GEDSI is meaningfully integrated into all alumni engagement and short course activities, and collaborates closely with the communications, public diplomacy, and monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) portfolios. The Coordinator also provides support to the Scholarships team during peak periods. The role works closely with all program staff, in particular the Program Coordinator (MEL & Communications), Operations Manager, Short Course Adviser, GEDSI Adviser, and MEL Adviser.
This is a hands‑on position that requires active engagement with Australia Awards Myanmar alumni and short course participants. Responsibilities include coordinating short courses and reintegration workshops, delivering online and in‑person alumni professional development and networking events, building strong relationships with alumni and short course participants, and producing alumni and participant profiles. Occasional international travel to Thailand is required (approximately three trips per year).
The Program Coordinator will model the Program’s internal operating principles by demonstrating their commitment to exceeding client expectations; continuous improvement; maintaining a solutions‑focused and responsive approach; ensuring attention to detail; and upholding a zero‑tolerance stance on fraud.
Essential Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated experience coordinating programs, projects, or activity portfolios in Myanmar, preferably in education, training, alumni engagement, civil society, development, or donor‑funded initiatives, with the ability to manage multiple activities and deadlines simultaneously
- Strong facilitation and participant‑engagement skills, with proven experience planning and delivering workshops, trainings, professional development sessions, or networking events (online and/or in‑person) for diverse groups, using participatory and inclusive approaches
- Well‑developed networking and relationship‑building skills, including the ability to build trust‑based relationships with alumni, participants, partners, service providers, and institutions in Myanmar, and to maintain active engagement through both in‑person and online platforms
- Practical experience coordinating events and logistics in Myanmar, including arranging venues, travel, accommodation, participant mobilisation, and managing contractors or service providers, with strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to gender equality, disability, and social inclusion (GEDSI), with experience applying inclusive practices in activity design, participant engagement, or community‑based work, particularly with marginalised or under‑represented groups
- Strong organisational, administrative, and information‑management skills, including experience maintaining databases or records, tracking budgets or expenditures, and preparing accurate reports or inputs for managers or donors
- Clear and effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with experience drafting professional emails, reports, activity summaries, profiles, or communications materials
- Ability to communicate effectively in Myanmar language(s) is required
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, while also demonstrating initiative, reliability, and sound judgement when working independently under general supervision
- High standards of integrity and professionalism, including the ability to work in accordance with organisational policies, safeguarding requirements, and a zero‑tolerance approach to fraud, exploitation, abuse, and harassment
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required, including occasional travel to Thailand, and to work flexibly during peak activity periods or events
Desirable Selection Criteria
- Experience working with Australia Awards, DFAT‑funded programs, or other international donor‑funded initiatives in Myanmar, particularly in alumni engagement, short courses, and training
- Experience working directly with alumni networks, professional associations, or community‑based organisations, including supporting networking or reintegration activities
- Familiarity with monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) activities, such as administering surveys, collecting participant feedback, or contributing to results reporting
- Experience collaborating with communications teams or producing basic communications content, such as participant stories, profiles, social media content, or event summaries
- Experience working in politically sensitive, conflict‑affected, or constrained operating environments, with demonstrated adaptability and risk awareness
