The Role

The Graphic Designer is an integral member of the Pacific Australis Skills regional Communications team and will support the program to deliver high quality, cohesive and appropriately branded communications materials and information.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to DFAT branding and style guidelines and accessibility good practice in all communications materials.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks on all branding across communications products, program information and training materials.
  • Support the development and roll out of designed materials and branded templates (e.g. PowerPoint presentations, fact sheets, reports, plans, training materials, infographics, event collateral, merchandise etc).
  • Maintain the graphics folder on the visual asset library which includes all templates, iconography, logos and design files, ensuring they are accessible and organized.
  • Compile and manage a design style guide to help the program team in understanding brand guidelines.
  • Work with the communications team to collaborate with external vendors to ensure quality production.
  • Provide internal and external capacity building on graphic design, layout, and visual storytelling, including training sessions for staff to strengthen skills in Canva, Adobe Suite, and brand application.
  • Contribute to event planning by designing event branding, signage, and on-site visuals.

 

Selection Criteria

Essential Experience and Knowledge

  • A relevant tertiary qualification.
  • At least five years’ experience in communications and/or graphic design roles, on DFAT-funded project is an advantage.
  • Familiarity working with design software, including Canva and Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Lightroom).
  • Experience with developing and managing the creation of visual communications across a variety of mediums, including photography, desktop publishing, graphic and web design and social media.
  • Excellent time management and ability to work on multiple assignments and manage competing priorities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to ensure high quality communication products, including coherence in branding and marking and incorporation of accessibility features. Experience in Australian and Pacific region and Timor-Leste settings a plus.
  • Understanding of and commitment to Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), Child Protection, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH), prevention of human trafficking, environmental protection, anti-corruption and other DFAT safeguarding policies.
