The Program
Australia Awards Myanmar is an Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) program administered by Palladium.  Aligned with the Australia Awards Global Strategic Framework and the Australia-Myanmar Development Partnership Plan, it offers scholarships, short courses and enabling activities to build the leadership and skills of the people of Myanmar and strengthen our people-to-people links.

Palladium is engaged to deliver three end-of-program outcomes:

a) Alumni use their skills, knowledge and networks to contribute to Myanmar’s sustainable development
b) Alumni are equipped with the leadership skills required for future cooperation between Australia and Myanmar, and
c) Alumni reflect a diversity of skillsets and groups to enable strong equity of access for marginalised communities such as women, gender and ethnically diverse minorities, rural and remote locations, and persons with disabilities.

The Program is an important component of the Australia-Myanmar Development Partnership Plan (2024-2029) which aims to contribute to a prosperous, resilient, and stable Myanmar. It includes overarching themes of:

i. Human rights, democratic space, and gender equality
ii. Health, education, livelihoods, and climate adaptation, and
iii. Humanitarian response and disaster risk reduction.

This phase of the Program runs from February 2026 until February 2029, with two opportunities for extension until 2031 and 2033.

Description

The Role

Australia Awards Myanmar supports emerging leaders from Myanmar to build the skills, knowledge, and networks required to contribute to their country’s development. The Program places strong emphasis on on‑award enrichment, recognising that a well‑designed and well‑supported scholar journey strengthens leadership capability, supports reintegration, builds long‑term people‑to‑people linkages, and contributes directly to EOPOs.

The Program’s enrichment approach is guided by a whole‑of‑scholarship‑lifecycle perspective and is informed by demand‑driven, evidence‑based programming. Enrichment activities complement academic study and focus on leadership and linkages through cultural orientation, networking, professional development, and reintegration preparation. The approach integrates GEDSI, wellbeing, psychosocial safety, and do‑no‑harm principles; embeds First Nations engagement and diverse Australian perspectives; supports scholars to actively develop and refine their Development Impact Plans (DIPs); strengthens collaboration with Australian tertiary institutions, including Student Contact Officers (SCOs); leverages opportunities with universities, the Global Support Mechanism, the Mekong‑Australia Partnership, the New Colombo Plan, and other stakeholders; and broadens engagement across DFAT priority sectors such as climate adaptation, humanitarian response, and disaster risk reduction.

To deliver the on‑award enrichment portfolio effectively, a part‑time (0.6 FTE / three days per week) Enrichment Coordinator will be engaged and based in Australia. This represents a shift from the previous intermittent STA model and enables consistent coordination and relationship management.

With strategic advice from the Alumni & Enrichment Adviser, the Enrichment Coordinator will manage enrichment activity providers and coordinate a comprehensive suite of on‑award enrichment activities for Myanmar scholars in Australia, including leadership and linkages sessions, networking and professional development opportunities, wellbeing and reintegration support, and activities that deepen scholars’ understanding of Australia, First Nations cultures, and GEDSI principles. The role will also promote active scholar participation and maintain close collaboration with universities, DFAT, and service providers to enhance the scholar experience and support achievement of EOPOs.

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Three to five years of professional experience in the Australian tertiary sector, particularly of working with international scholars and students
  • Demonstrated high-level skills in effective client and stakeholder relationship management
  • Excellent communication skills and experience of working effectively across cultures
  • Demonstrated experience of coordinating large-scale events and activities
  • Ability to write effectively and accurately in English, including for print and digital media
  • An understanding of and commitment to the principles of gender, disability, and social inclusion
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload, balance competing demands, and deliver outcomes to specified quality level within agreed time frames
  • Excellent administration and organisational skills, with a high level of attention to detail

Desirable Selection Criteria

  • Experience studying in Australia at postgraduate level
  • Familiarity with the Australia Awards initiative
  • Familiarity with the culture and people of Myanmar
  • Familiarity with graphic design, photography and/or digital communication
