Role Purpose
The Director Off Grid Electrification (Director) will lead ESIP’s off-grid rural and remote electrification program. The role will sit on the Executive Committee, lead the grants team, oversee direct implementation of activities, and ensure that lessons from implementation are shared to inform the PNG regulatory framework for off grid electrification.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic advice and technical support to progress small-scale rural and remote renewable energy outcomes in PNG
- Lead ESIP’s grants team, oversee implementation and be accountable for the delivery of ESIP’s renewable grant programs – Pawarim Komuniti Partnership
- Working closely with the AHC, design and deliver priority projects through direct implementation in various provinces
- To deliver these projects, identify and appoint project managers and their teams and ensure that ESIP project management tools and processes are strictly followed.
- As part of the above, support the project managers in the definition and implementation of a GEDSI plan, a climate change, disaster resilience and environmental safeguard (CCDR) plan and a locally led development (LLD) plan
- Contribute to the definition of relevant Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) strategies, for each project and at the sector level
- Ensure that financial reporting on the grants and projects is up to date and necessary due diligence and audits are undertaken of grantees and subcontractors on all projects
- Contribute to ESIP Project Management tools and processes improvement
- Working closely with the AHC, engage and coordinate with the different donors and stakeholders of the sector to identify sustainable business models, build a pipeline of projects and identify potential areas for cooperation and partnerships
- Ensure that lessons from grants and direct implementation projects are shared with the relevant ESIP directors and advisers to develop and fine tune regulations in this developing sector
- Provide politically savvy and practical advice, regular communications and updates on the progress, and take a solution-focused approach to managing challenges

About You
Key selection criteria for the potential successful candidate include, but are not limited to:
- Tertiary qualifications in electrical or mechanical engineering, renewable energy or relevant discipline
- A minimum of 10 years of practical and demonstrated experience in renewable energy solutions
- A minimum of 10 years of project experience, including project management experience
- Demonstrated experience in delivering renewable off-grid rural and remote solutions including solar and mini-hydro
