The Kiribati Australia Infrastructure (Te KAI) Program is a flagship initiative supporting the delivery of small to medium-scale infrastructure projects that are climate-resilient, inclusive, and purpose-built. As the Construction Supervisor, you will play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of these projects, ensuring technical compliance, safety, and quality across all construction activities.

Based in Betio, Kiribati, and reporting to the Design Manager, you will supervise on-site works, lead small trade teams, and work closely with local contractors, government counterparts, and the broader Te KAI infrastructure team. The Opportunity

As the Construction Supervisor, you will play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of these projects, ensuring technical compliance, safety, and quality across all construction activities.

Based in Betio, Kiribati, and reporting to the Design Manager, you will supervise on-site works, lead small trade teams, and work closely with local contractors, government counterparts, and the broader Te KAI infrastructure team. This is a unique opportunity to apply your construction expertise in a meaningful context, supporting development outcomes in the Pacific.

Your Role

  • Supervise small to medium-sized building projects (e.g. single-storey timber, masonry, or concrete structures).
  • Lead and mentor small work teams, ensuring safe and effective construction practices.
  • Ensure compliance with technical specifications, safety standards, and environmental safeguards.
  • Troubleshoot construction issues and support continuous improvement on-site.
  • Conduct regular inspections, manage defect rectification, and maintain accurate site records.
  • Collaborate with contractors and stakeholders to ensure timely and quality project delivery.
  • Integrate Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), and climate resilience into all operations.

About You

You are a builder / construction professional with a strong background in site supervision, you have extensive trade knowledge and experience, and a passion for delivering infrastructure that makes a difference. You thrive in cross-cultural environments and bring a collaborative, hands-on approach to leadership and mentoring.

You will possess:

  • A trade qualification (e.g. Carpentry) or equivalent significant infrastructure experience.
  • Significant on-site supervision experience in construction, ideally with experience in the Pacific.
  • Proven ability to manage work, health and safety and lead small teams.
  • Experience in procurement and contracting for goods and services.
  • Familiarity with donor-funded programs, particularly DFAT, is an advantage.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with cultural sensitivity.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, gender equality, and inclusive work practices.
