Summary

The Communications Specialist will work the Communications, Performance and Inclusion Lead to create internal and external communications across P4A objectives and ensuring the program’s achievements and messages are effectively communicated to a wide range of stakeholders, including DFAT, Pacific Island governments, aviation sector partners, and the public. 

Under the guidance of the Communications, Performance and Inclusion Lead the Communications Specialist will implement the P4A Communication Strategy, workplan in line with established communications guidelines and procedures. The Specialist will produce high-quality communication materials, maintain program visibility, and ensure that P4A’s communications align with DFAT’s standards and strategic objectives. This role will support the integration of GEDSI and climate resilience, localization across P4A communications and ensure compliance to safeguarding policies including communications requirements on Child Protection. 

Description

Under the direction of the Communications, Performance and Inclusion Lead, the Communications Specialist supports the delivery of the P4A Communications and Public Diplomacy Strategy and strengthens the program’s visibility, engagement, and storytelling across the Pacific region. The role collaborates closely with P4A teams, ASI, DFAT communications units, and Australian High Commissions to promote P4A’s achievements in aviation safety, governance, and connectivity.

Key responsibilities include coordinating strategic communications planning, supporting country engagement strategies with tailored messaging, and producing high-quality communication outputs such as press releases, articles, case studies, social media content, and stories of change. The position also contributes to event planning and delivery, supports media arrangements for high-level visits, and manages the program’s website and social media channels.

The Communications Specialist actively monitors Pacific and Australian media, develops visual and multimedia content, and participates in the Communications Community of Practice. The role also provides capacity-building support to P4A staff and aviation partners to strengthen communication and knowledge-management practices across the region.

Administrative duties include maintaining contact databases, preparing briefs and presentations, supporting stakeholder engagements, and undertaking tasks as directed by DFAT and the Communications, Performance and Inclusion Lead.
