The Role
The Climate Resilience Coordinator will support implementation in PNG of the Pacific Australia Skills Regional Climate Change and Disaster Resilience (CCDR) Strategy action plan, mainstream climate change considerations across Pacific Australia Skills PNG and collaborate with other Australian funded climate-focused programs in PNG. The role will work closely with the Country Director to input into climate change reporting for Pacific Australia Skills PNG and work closely with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Coordinator to gather evidence to support MEL.
Roles and Responsibilities

Lead PNG-based climate change resilience analysis to identify key risks, vulnerabilities and opportunities within PNG labor markets.

Lead on implementation of the Regional CCDR Strategy in PNG and ensure alignment with DFAT’s Climate Change Action Strategy and Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) priorities including the national resilient development priorities.

Work with the Country Director, Skills Strengthening Manager and the Partnership Manager to identify entry points for climate-related skills aligned to specific industry needs, contribute to development of responsive courses and facilitate strategic access for marginalized groups.

Work with Regional Climate Change Lead to enable access to knowledge and learning frameworks for training partners to implement and adopt.

Work closely with the Inclusion coordinator to promote and mainstream GEDSI in all processes and activities.

Contribute to developing harmonious working relationships with DFAT, colleagues and key stakeholders, and assist to build the profile and reputation of PAS as a high performing support program.

As a member of the Pacific Australia Skills team, contribute to: program strategy development and work planning; integration of GEDSI, First Nation perspectives, locally led development, environmental considerations and green initiatives and other cross-cutting issues; fostering of a collaborative team; and measurement of results and production of reports.
- Other tasks and duties as required to ensure the smooth and effective delivery of Pacific Australia Skills.
Selection Criteria
Essential Experience and Knowledge

Tertiary qualifications in climate change, environmental or social sciences, natural resource management, environmental engineering, or a related field.

Good knowledge and experience in building climate and disaster resilience, preferably in the context of international development activities.

Demonstrated understanding of Australia’s international development and climate commitments.

Proven capacity to translate complex climate and scientific information for non-technical audiences.

Understanding of national climate and disaster resilience priorities in PNG.

Strong interpersonal skills and experience working in complex cross-cultural environments.

Understanding of and commitment to Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), Child Protection, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH), prevention of human trafficking, environmental protection, anti-corruption and other DFAT safeguarding policies.
