About the Program
The Australia–Papua New Guinea Economic Partnership (APEP) is a flagship partnership supporting Papua New Guinea’s economic development priorities. Delivered by the Government of Australia in close collaboration with the Government of Papua New Guinea, APEP focuses on strengthening economic systems, institutions, and opportunities that support sustainable and inclusive growth through to 2028.
Working alongside government, research institutions and development partners, APEP delivers coordinated and high-impact outcomes across four key engagement areas:
- Safeguarding Macroeconomic Stability
- Supporting More Efficient and Inclusive Markets
- Fostering Inclusive Growth and Expanded Livelihoods
- Catalysing Economic Research and Dialogue
Gender equality, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI), women’s economic empowerment (WEE), and climate change are central to APEP and integrated across all engagement areas and activities.
About the Opportunity
Join us in a pivotal role where your expertise can genuinely shape inclusive economic development in Papua New Guinea. We’re looking for a highly motivated and visionary GEDSI Adviser who thrives on advancing gender equality, disability and social inclusion, and women’s economic empowerment (WEE) across APEP’s diverse and impactful portfolio. In this role, you’ll be a key driver of change—delivering high‑quality technical leadership to the APEP GEDSI and Safeguarding Unit and working hand‑in‑hand with dynamic workstreams and partners to embed meaningful GEDSI principles into every stage of program design, delivery, monitoring and reporting.
You’ll play a central role in spotting and shaping emerging GEDSI and WEE opportunities, ensuring they become integral to project and activity planning. From conducting insightful GEDSI analyses at concept and approval stages, to contributing to data collection, case studies and rapid reviews with the MERLA team, your work will directly enhance the program’s impact. You’ll also help design and implement GEDSI activities, strengthen partner engagement, and ensure deliverables meet the highest quality standards.
The GEDSI Adviser is expected to work independently, deliver high-quality and client‑focused outputs, and provide capacity-strengthening support across APEP teams and partners. Experience working in complex, donor-funded programs in PNG or similar contexts will be highly regarded.
This will be a part-time role (1-3 days per-week) depending on the adviser’s availability and agreed outputs. If the adviser is based remotely, occasional travel to PNG will be expected.
Role Responsibilities
Under guidance from the in-country GEDSI Adviser and in collaboration with the GEDSI and Safeguarding Unit Manager, the GEDSI Adviser will work collaboratively to:
- Identify potential or emerging GEDSI and Women’s Economic Empowerment opportunities and develop these in project or activity designs.
- Undertake GEDSI analysis at project concept and approval stages.
- Contribute to GEDSI-related data collection, case studies and rapid reviews in partnership with APEP’s MERLA team.
- Assist with GEDSI Reporting, including planning and inputs for 6-monthly and annual reports.
- Review Project Activity Designs (PADs), Screening Notes, and other planning documents to ensure alignment with APEP’s GEDSI Strategy.
- Provide capacity building for senior leadership, workstreams and partners on GEDSI mainstreaming.
- Promote team behaviours of integrity, trust and respect in accordance with company values.
