The Opportunity

Australia Awards PNG supports Papua New Guinea's development through education, institutional partnerships, and knowledge exchange between PNG and Australia. Through its Higher Education Partnerships initiatives, the program helps strengthen tertiary institutions and create lasting development impact across PNG.

As the Impact Stories Advisor, you will work with partners, participants and stakeholders to capture information on stories of change and achievement. Through interviews, field visits and stakeholder engagement, you'll develop compelling content that showcases program impact and supports reporting, learning and public diplomacy objectives.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced communications, journalism or development professional who is passionate about storytelling and creating meaningful impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and document compelling stories that demonstrate program impact and outcomes.
  • Conduct interviews, stakeholder consultations and field research across PNG.
  • Develop content for communications, reporting and public diplomacy purposes.
  • Build strong relationships with participants, alumni, universities and other key stakeholders.
  • Support monitoring, evaluation, research and learning activities through impact storytelling.
  • Work collaboratively across Australia Awards PNG teams to showcase program achievements.
  • Promote inclusive storytelling that reflects diverse experiences and perspectives.
  • Travel within Papua New Guinea as required.

About You

You are an experienced storyteller with a talent for turning complex information into engaging and accessible content. You're confident building relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and have a strong appreciation for cross-cultural communication.

You will bring:

  • Qualifications in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field.
  • Experience producing high-quality stories, case studies, feature articles or multimedia content.
  • Excellent interviewing, research, writing and editing skills.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
  • Proficiency in Tok Pisin.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Willingness to travel within Papua New Guinea.

Desirable:

  • Experience in international development, education, government or community development.
  • Photography, videography or visual storytelling experience.
