About the Program 

The PNG Secondary Education Program (PNG SEP) is a flagship investment of the Australian Government, delivered under the Papua New Guinea–Australia Partnership. PNG SEP aims to improve learning outcomes, equity and access for secondary students across Papua New Guinea’s highest performing schools, while strengthening national and subnational education systems.

The program supports the Government of Papua New Guinea’s priorities under the National Education Plan 2023–2027 and is aligned with Australia’s International Development Policy. PNG SEP focuses on improving teaching and learning quality, strengthening school leadership and governance and supporting safe, resilient and inclusive secondary school environments. Cross-cutting priorities, including gender equality, disability inclusion, safeguarding and climate resilience, are mainstreamed across all program activities.

About the Opportunity

Abt Global is seeking a Partnerships Coordinator to support delivery of End of Program Outcome (EOPO) 3: Supportive Australia–PNG Relations, strengthening institutional, school-to-school and people-to-people partnerships across the secondary education sector.

Reporting to the Teaching and Learning Lead, the Partnerships Coordinator will manage day-to-day coordination of partnerships with Australian and PNG organisations, including volunteers, universities, training institutions and service providers. The role will support well-coordinated, inclusive and safe engagement that aligns with program priorities, DFAT public diplomacy objectives and school needs.

This role is suited to a strong coordinator with excellent interpersonal skills, experience working across organisations and a commitment to inclusive, respectful and locally led partnerships.

Key responsibilities 

The Partnerships Coordinator will:

  • Coordinate implementation of the PNG SEP partnerships approach in support of EOPO 3: Supportive Australia–PNG Relations

  • Manage day-to-day relationships with Australian and PNG partners, including volunteers, universities, training institutions and sector organisations

  • Coordinate school-to-school, institution-to-institution and people-to-people partnerships, ensuring clear roles, schedules and alignment with school priorities

  • Support integration of volunteers and partners into program activities, working with technical leads to ensure contributions are well scoped and add value

  • Work closely with the PNG SEP Teaching and Learning Lead, Program Director and Communications Manager to support public diplomacy, visibility and strategic messaging related to partnerships

  • Ensure partnership activities apply GEDSI, safeguarding and Do No Harm principles in line with DFAT and PNG SEP requirements

  • Maintain partnership records, agreements and tracking systems to support governance, learning and reporting

  • Contribute partnership-related inputs to six-monthly progress reports, learning reviews and reflection processes

  • Document and share partnership outcomes, learning and case studies to support sustainability and sector engagement

Key deliverables

  • Well-coordinated partnership activities aligned with PNG SEP objectives and AHC priorities

  • Effective school-to-school, institutional and people-to-people partnerships established and supported

  • Partnership inputs to public diplomacy, communications and learning activities delivered on time

  • Accurate partnership records, tracking and reporting contributing to six-monthly and annual reports

  • Partnership case studies and learning products documenting outcomes and lessons learned

Key working relationships 

  • Reporting to: Teaching and Learning Lead

  • Internal: Program Director; Delivery team; GEDSI and Safeguarding team; MEL team; Digital Technology team; Communications team

  • External: NDoE and PDoEs; participating secondary schools; international volunteers; universities and teacher training institutions; consortium partners and sector stakeholders

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience coordinating partnerships, exchanges or stakeholder engagement in education or social-sector programs

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-management skills with the ability to work across diverse organisations and cultures

  • Experience supporting school-based or community-based activities

  • Strong organisational skills, including scheduling, documentation and activity tracking

  • An understanding of public diplomacy, partnership visibility or learning exchanges 

  • A commitment to gender equality, disability inclusion, safeguarding and Do No Harm principles

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
