About Pacific Labour Mobility Support Program     

The Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme is a signature initiative for the Australian Government that enables workers from 9 Pacific Island Countries (PICs) and Timor- Leste to work in priority sectors in Australia. The Pacific Labour Mobility Support Program’s (PLMSP) role is to provide the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and governments in 9 PICs and Timor-Leste with support to enable workers to access PALM scheme in inclusive ways that maximise the benefits for the workers and national economies while minimising risks from labour mobility participation. Palladium is contracted to deliver PLMSP on behalf of DFAT.  

This Opportunity  

The Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Officer will be responsible for supporting implementation of the GEDSI team's annual plan activities.

This is a fixed term opportunity required to September 2028.

Description

The Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Officer will be responsible for:

·         Support the implementation of GEDSI activities outlined in the PLMSP annual plan, including providing administrative and operational assistance.

·         Coordinate logistics for GEDSI initiatives and events, working closely with PLMSP Operations and other streams.

·         Assist in organising GEDSI-related events such as International Women’s Day, International Day of People with Disabilities and the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

·         Contribute to the development of GEDSI materials (training content, guidelines, SOPs and best practice notes) and support their culturally appropriate delivery.

·         Provide responsive support to emerging priorities from PLMSP, the GEDSI team and DFAT/LSU partners.

·         Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, fostering an inclusive and respectful environment.

·         Demonstrate commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion by modelling inclusive communication and supporting conflict‑resolution and team collaboration.

·         Comply with and promote DFAT’s policies on gender, disability, PSEAH, child protection, fraud and environmental and social safeguards in all aspects of work.


We are seeking an individual who has:  

·         Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, such as Social Work, Gender Studies, International Development, Community Development, Anthropology, or similar social science.

·         At least 1-3 years relevant professional experience, preferably with experience in the Pacific or Timor Leste.

·         A general understanding of gender equality, disability inclusion, social inclusion, human rights and international development concepts, and the ability to translate theory into practice.

·         Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders across multiple cross-cultural contexts

·         Strong liaison and coordination skills.

·         Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team.

·         Strong skills in written communication including report writing.

·         Ability to present and facilitate discussion or public speaking.
