The Australia–PNG Law and Justice Partnership (APLJ) support the Government of Papua New Guinea and the Autonomous Bougainville Government to strengthen the rule of law, improve access to justice, and enhance community safety. APLJ implements multi-year initiatives across policy, systems reform, and community-based justice interventions, including managing the Community Justice Fund (CJF) and the Infrastructure & Equipment Fund (IEF).

The Role
To support the Office of Public Prosecutor (OPP) to achieve the GoPNG national goals and objectives related to transnational crime by strengthening administration and accountability mechanisms; strengthening capacity in international crime cooperation (mutual assistance, foreign evidence casework); strengthening prosecution of fraud, corruption, transnational crime; and confiscation of assets under the proceeds of crime regime; and mentoring and developing the capacity of individual counterparts across the law and justice sector at both the national and subnational levels.

About You
The preferred candidate will have:
Qualifications and experience
- Tertiary qualifications in law, policy, public administration, or a related field.
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in prosecuting and/or dealing with mutual legal assistance, transnational crime and proceeds of crime cases. In-depth knowledge and understanding of the PNG Law and Justice system or environments where transnational crimes such as human trafficking, anti-money laundering and counter terrorism financing, drugs and cybercrime are significant issues.
Essential Experience & Knowledge
- Demonstrated experience in building institutional and human resource capacity in developing country contexts.
- Demonstrated experience managing or advising on organisational reform, especially within security or justice institutions.
Technical Skills & Personal Attributes
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including cross-cultural sensitivity and ability to build trusted relationships and diverse stakeholders.
- Sound judgment, resilience, flexibility and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively in cross-cultural environments.
