Summary

The Australia Awards South Asia & Mongolia program is seeking technical proposals from Registered Training Organisations in Australia, or Australian tertiary institutions as defined in the Higher Education Support Act, 2003 Table A, B and C, to design and deliver a Short Course on Championing Excellence: India-Australia Para-Athletic Coaching Short Course (India).

Description

Australia Awards – South Asia & Mongolia (the Program) is seeking a cost-effective training program for up to 20 participants. This Short Course will be delivered via blended delivery, commencing in December 2025 and completing no later than April 2026.

The proposed Short Course aims to build the capacity of certified mid-level Indian para-athletics coaches through a customised sports science and coaching development exchange in Australia. Nominated by the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) and other relevant institutions, coaches will train with leading institutions—the Victorian Institute of Sport, Paralympics Australia, Australian Institute of Sport, Australian universities.

Through this short course, Indian para-athletics coaches will gain exposure to Australian best practice in high-performance coaching, sports science, athlete development and inclusion frameworks. This will strengthen India’s para-athletics ecosystem and ensure that athletes from marginalized communities are better supported to achieve their full potential.

Objectives of this course are outlined below:

  1. Build capacity of Indian mid-level athletic coaches

    1. Provide targeted learning to recipients showcasing Australian best practice, particularly, in para-athletics coaching and training and athlete welfare.

    2. Enhance knowledge of adaptive coaching techniques, sports science, and athlete development models and for para-athletes.

    3. Develop skills for athlete assessment, understanding the classification system in para-athletics, ethical principles, addressing societal barriers and promoting inclusive sporting environments.

    4. Expand their professional networks through exposure to Australian sports institutions, course providers, sports commercial service providers, and other Australian sports stakeholders.

  2. Support improved athlete performance. The course aims to improve the capacity of coaches, which, in turn, aims to support the improved performance and development of the Indian athletes under their supervision.

  3. Expose recipients to the full range of Australian sporting expertise. Recipients will receive training from Government agencies (ASC, Victoria Institute of Sport) as well as private entities (e.g. Australia Strength and Conditioning Association). This will give participants opportunities to build professional and institutional linkages with sporting bodies, and an understanding of the commercial offerings Australia can provide to India.
