Description

The Pacific Labour Mobility Support Program (PLMSP) is seeking to engage an eligible Service Provider to manage and deliver services to the Solomon Islands Labour Mobility Unit (LMU).

The PALM scheme allows eligible Australian businesses to hire workers from nine Pacific islands countries and Timor-Leste when there are not enough local workers available. Through the PALM scheme, eligible businesses can recruit workers for seasonal jobs for up to nine months or for longer-term roles of between one and four years in unskilled, low-skilled and semi-skilled positions. This helps to fill labour gaps in rural and regional Australia and allows workers to develop skills and send income to support their families and communities. and the scheme is co-managed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR).

The PLMSP builds on the successes of the Pacific Labour Facility (PLF) program, with a renewed focus on the provision of tailored support to worker sending countries to address their specific needs and priorities. Palladium is contracted to deliver PLMSP in from October 2024 on behalf of Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). The PLMSP provides training, mentoring, policy and strategy advice, enhancement of worker welfare and reintegration services technical system development and funding of inline positions within countries’ Labour Mobility Units (LMUs).

Over the last six years, the Solomon Islands engagement with labour mobility has been supported by the Solomon Islands Support Services (SISS). The new Solomon Islands Labour Support Services (SILLS) will continue to provide operational support to the LMU.
