SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT
The Southeast Asia Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention Platform is a pivotal initiative supported by a AUD20 million investment from the Australian Government over five years (2024 to 2029). The Platform aims to enhance GBV prevention efforts across Southeast Asia by fostering collaboration among governments, civil society organisations, international bodies, and other stakeholders. We are guided by the principles of being locally driven, evidence-based, inclusive and diverse, survivor-centred and trauma informed, adaptable, collaborative, minimising harm, accessible and innovative. We seek to build capacity, amplify evidence, and innovate in the prevention of GBV.
SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Based in Bangkok and reporting to the Regional Director, with close technical support and mentorship from the Technical Partner’s team, the Demonstrate lead will be responsible for overseeing the Platform’s Strategy focused on ensuring evidence of what works to prevent GBV in SE Asia is accessible to and utilised by practitioners and policy makers in the region. This will include synthesising existing evidence, supporting and elevating practice-based knowledge generation and galvanising learning among diverse practitioners on what works to prevent GBV in different contexts. The role will include leading on both the documentation and consolidation of learning from previous and existing work in the region, as well as new initiatives and evidence/learning generated through the Platform activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical:
- Identify, review and synthesise existing research and resources on what works to prevent GBV in the SE Asia region for sharing regionally as well as to global platforms and audiences.
- Work with the technical partner to synthesise and contextualise international best practice on GBV prevention to the Southeast Asian context, including on cross-cutting issues such as, but not limited to, the intersections between climate change and GBV, and disability inclusion.
- Support Platform partners to capture evidence and practice-based knowledge from their prevention programs or activities.
- Work collaboratively with regional WROs, organisations of persons with disabilities (OPDs), and LGBTQI+ organisations to capture and elevate practice-based knowledge on GBV prevention.
- Document learning and practice-based knowledge generated through the Platform and disseminate to regional and global audiences via accessible knowledge products (including written, web-based, infographic and audio-visual resources). Facilitate peer learning opportunities and support learning exchanges between Southeast Asian, Australian and global GBV prevention actors.
- Link practitioners with external researchers and evaluators, including opportunities presented by the Australian Research Council’s Centre for Excellence on Elimination of Ending Violence Against Women (CEVAW), SVRI and the Align Platform.
- Coordinate with UN partners to share evidence and learning, ensure coherent messaging across programs and avoid duplication of efforts.
- Integrate cross-cutting issues including disability inclusion, LGBTQI+ inclusion, and gender equality across workstream activities and initiatives.
- Lead and oversee the creation of evidence and knowledge products related to the Demonstrate workstream, including lessons learned, case studies, and stories of change, and contribute to communications products.
Planning and reporting
- Work collaboratively with other key members of the Platform team, coordinating with other Platform leads and contributing to other workstreams to ensure coherence and synergy and avoid siloing and duplication.
- Work collaboratively with MEL Director to ensure the Demonstrate pillar activities are contributing to the achievement of the overall Platform Theory of Change.
- Actively participate in annual work planning exercises for the Platform, including developing the work plan for the Demonstrate pillar team.
- Contribute to Platform annual progress reporting.
- Provide ad hoc reports on the Demonstrate pillar as requested by the Platform Regional Director, Steering Committee and/or DFAT.
- Provide progress updates to the Advisory Committee during Committee meetings.
- Contribute to all other Platform deliverables and reports as requested by the Platform Regional Director.
HR Management
- Lead the recruitment of Demonstrate Project Officer(s) and other requisite staff, including developing job descriptions, conducting interviews and agreeing selection of candidates in collaboration with the Incubator team.
- Contribute to the technical and ethical delivery of the Platform, including ensuring that the Platform’s ethical standards of operation related to the conduct of the team and the design and implementation of Platform activities are applied consistently.
- Coordinate and oversee the Demonstrate workstream including delegating tasks appropriately to relevant staff members, fostering an inclusive and supportive team environment in line with the Platform principles (listed in the background section above).
- Effectively manage and mentor Demonstrate Project Officer and other staff, including efficiently managing staff time, monitoring work performance, and approving timesheets.
- Effectively manage risk associated with this pillar of work, feeding emerging and changing risks and associated risk mitigation and management strategies into the Platform’s overall risk management approach, and coordinating with other Platform staff to effectively mitigate and manage risks that cut across work areas.
- Quality assure all evidence and knowledge resources, and external engagement products developed by Demonstrate pillar staff.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Commitment to preventing GBV and knowledge of what works to prevent violence against women demonstrated through professional experience.
- Networks into and experience working with WROs, OPDs and LGBTQI+ organisation and regional movements across Southeast Asia.
- Experience designing and implementing qualitative, participatory research projects in Southeast Asia, including design of data collection tools, collecting data, overseeing research processes and quality assuring outputs.
- Understanding of and experience in applying ethical approaches to GBV research.
- At least 5 years’ experience in research and knowledge development related to GBV, including capture, documentation and dissemination of practice-based knowledge.
- Experience synthesising evidence and data on GBV, including through review of existing programmes, evaluations and evidence of ‘what works’, and ability to translate complex evidence into accessible written products such as reports, briefs and case studies.
- Proven expertise in developing and implementing successful evidence dissemination and research uptake strategies.
- Proven experience working across multiple partnerships and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships with a range of diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated commitment to safeguarding policies and principles, do no harm, child protection and protection of vulnerable groups in all their work.
- Strong dedication to preventing gender-based violence (GBV) and understanding of women’s movements and the importance of their role in GBV prevention in Southeast Asia.
- Demonstrated commitment to adhere to safeguarding policies, child protection, and the protection of vulnerable groups.
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, social science, international development, business administration, or a related field. A post-graduate degree in a related field is desirable but not essential.
- Experience and ability to fostering inclusive and supportive work environments and coordinating work across different individuals and workstreams efficiently.
- Experience with a risk-based approach to program or organizational management, including undertaking and implementing risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
- High-level interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey concepts clearly and concisely.
- Proficiency in English and at least one Southeast Asian language, both written and oral.
