The opportunity 

  • Provide leadership to strengthen the education sector in Tuvalu

  • Seeking a Team Leader with substantial experience in education

  • Preferred location is Funafuti, Tuvalu 

Tuvalu and Australia Partnership for Quality Education (TAPQE)

The TAPQE Program aims to strengthen education sector performance and Australia’s Pacific relationships, driving shared prosperity and progress. TAPQE has a focus on stronger literacy and numeracy outcomes; more equitable and relevant education pathways; and more inclusive, evidence-based and efficient government systems. The program requires unique approaches to effectively address local challenges within resource constrained environments and is tailored to the local cultural context and government priorities.

Key responsibilities 

  • Leading the delivery of the program to achieve meaningful education outcomes

  • Overseeing program operations, including deliverables, budgets, reporting and team coordination

  • Maintain strong working relationships with all key stakeholders, including DFAT, Government of Tuvalu and Tetra Tech

  • Provide leadership in developing and maintaining a high-performing team by providing coaching and mentoring direct reports

  • Support and facilitate a strong learning culture, based on the application of the MEL framework and oversee the maintenance of quality systems

Selection criteria 

  • Tertiary qualifications in education, pedagogy, or related field

  •  Experience managing the delivery of activities for a large project or program

  • Demonstrated in depth experience of the education sector

  • Deep understanding of the Pacific context, ideally with extensive experience working in Tuvalu

  • Excellent inter-personal skills for building and maintaining effective working relationships with stakeholders and staff
