We operate in over 90 countries and have a workforce of more than 4,000 talented, motivated, and diverse staff of all religions, races, languages, and gender identities. We are seeking a Recruitment Support Officer, Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Program to be based in Adelaide / Australia.
About the Program:
The Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Program is an established program run by the UN and other multilateral organisations to provide young professionals with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in multilateral technical cooperation and international development. JPOs are sponsored under bilateral agreements between respective multilateral organisations and participating Governments for two to three-year assignments that vary based on country-specific, regional, sector-based or thematic priorities. JPOs are typically under 35 years of age and are recruited as professional staff members by their respective governments, who serve as the sponsors of their positions within the organisation.
A key focus of Australia’s multilateral engagement strategy is to develop a pipeline of Australian professionals who could, in the long-term, progress to senior leadership positions in multilateral organisations. While some JPOs will secure ongoing roles in the UN system, some will return to Australia at the conclusion of their placement and bring back knowledge, expertise and networks that will help Australia to be more effective in the multilateral system.
Australia is investing $25.6 million over four years (2020-21 to 2023-24) to support Australian JPO placements at international institutions critical to Australia’s interests. The program is a whole-of-government initiative led by DFAT.
