Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific Support Unit 

The Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific (AIFFP) finances quality, climate resilient infrastructure projects in the Pacific and Timor-Leste. The AIFFP is in the process of preparing, approving, and implementing a significant pipeline of projects to support the PNG power sector. The pipeline includes 5 major projects totaling up to US$252 million. Implementation of these projects will be the responsibility of PNG Power Ltd (PPL). The Project Director will assist with the planning, implementing, and overseeing of these projects. Each project will have a project management unit (PMU) set up within PPL to manage implementation.

The AIFFP is managed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, with support from Tetra Tech (the Support Unit). The AIFFP Support Unit provides advice and services to support the delivery of the AIFFP and its objectives.

Key responsibilities

As the Project Director, you will play a crucial role in driving the success of major infrastructure projects that are vital to the development of the Pacific region. You will be responsible for overseeing the entire project lifecycle, ensuring that all aspects are executed to the highest standards. Your leadership will be key to navigating complex stakeholder environments and delivering on project objectives.

  • Planning, monitoring, and delivery of five major projects.
  • Collaborating with the PPL teams to meet the requirements of the scope of services and deliver to the specified milestones and outcomes.
  • Managing the interface between multiple stakeholders to ensure that all outputs, notices, and policies are adhered to, monitored, and tracked, and where necessary actions taken.
  • Providing support to key stakeholders involved in the delivery of these projects and ensuring strong partnerships amongst all stakeholders.

     

Selection criteria

To excel in this role, the ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in infrastructure project management, coupled with the ability to navigate complex environments and drive results. The successful candidate will demonstrate not only technical expertise but also the leadership and interpersonal skills necessary to manage diverse teams and stakeholders across the Pacific region.

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction, or similar.
  • Demonstrable experience in project management in major infrastructure project management, design, documentation, construction supervision and contract administration.
  • Experience in delivering energy sector projects.
  • Experience in infrastructure projects within the Pacific region.
  • A track record of successfully managing projects across their entire lifecycle.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex issues and develop practical solutions.
