Australia Assists
Australia Assists is an Australian Government program that deploys skilled humanitarian specialists to support multilateral agencies, governments, civil society and communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and conflict. Australia Assists aims to save lives, alleviate suffering, maintain human dignity in the wake of crises, and strengthen preparedness for future emergencies.
Tetra Tech International Development manages the Australia Assists program on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications and public diplomacy strategy in collaboration with DFAT and other key stakeholders.
- Create and manage new branding and template designs, ensuring alignment with DFAT guidelines.
- Establish a streamlined approvals process with DFAT to expedite the production of communications materials.
- Develop, deliver, and maintain new social media channels to disseminate program updates and impacts.
- Oversee the creation and management of an Australia Assists website.
- Develop compelling case studies to highlight program achievements and successes.
- Launch and manage internal communications campaigns to introduce new branding, social media channels, and collective narratives to internal stakeholders.
- Coordinate events as part of the program's public diplomacy strategy, providing strategic advice to DFAT for stakeholder engagement opportunities.
- Collaborate with the HR Manager to develop a communication program for roster members, keeping them informed of updates and opportunities.
Selection criteria
- Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in media, communications, public relations, public diplomacy, journalism, or a related field.
- Experience: Experience working collaboratively with DFAT to support compliant and engaging communications (preferred/desirable
- Knowledge and Skills: Advanced knowledge of social media platforms, web-based management systems, and the latest communication methods. Strong mentoring and capacity-building skills. Deep understanding of cross-cutting priorities, including gender equality, diversity and social inclusion (GEDSI), climate change, and localisation, with the ability to integrate these into communications planning and implementation.
- Personal Attributes: Exceptional listening skills, curiosity, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups. Strong self-management skills, including the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines. High level of diplomacy, discretion, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
