The Vanuatu Skills Partnership is seeking a Business Development Specialist, with a particular focus on the handicraft and textiles sector, to provide support to its Skills for Creative Industries workstream.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Working in partnership with the Department of Industry, the Skills for Creative Industries workstream seeks to facilitate the national handicraft agenda, with a particular focus on supporting rural economic growth and women's economic empowerment. Key areas of focus for the position include:

Improving sector coordination and leadership.
Strengthening the business operations of provincial 'Handicraft Hubs' which aim to function as market aggregators for local producers.
Facilitating the sale of more Made in Vanuatu products, both nationally and regionally, with a focus on product quality improvement, production efficiency and market access.
Strengthening the handicraft and textile supply chain.
The position may be undertaken remotely, however will require regular travel to Vanuatu.

A flexible and responsive approach will be needed to ensure that this role is locally led and adapts to the circumstances of the provinces as well as emerging opportunities within the sector nationally and internationally.

Required Qualifications:

Relevant tertiary degree, or equivalent experience in economics, business administration etc. preferably within the handicraft or textiles sector.
Extensive professional experience working in the handicraft and textiles sector, with a focus on supporting small business growth and entrepreneurship, value chain development and market systems facilitation, ideally in the context of rural /small island economies.
Experience in coaching, mentoring, and strengthening the capacity of private sector entities to identify market opportunities, produce high-quality products and/or manage the growth and sustainable development of their business.
Proven ability to analyse local economies and diagnose appropriate and practical solutions to facilitate inclusive, economic growth opportunities in different value chains and market systems.
Demonstrated experience in working with multiple stakeholders and building cross-sector partnerships in innovative ways.
