The Australia Awards South Asia & Mongolia program is funded by the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and implemented by Scope Global. It is a multi-country program covering Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka through service delivery offices in Colombo, Dhaka, Islamabad, Kathmandu, Thimphu and Ulaanbaatar.

Australia Awards are provided to build the skills and knowledge of individuals so that they can contribute to their country’s development and support the ongoing development of links between Australia and the countries to which it provides aid. Australia Awards are an important part of the Australian Government’s focus on public and economic diplomacy, and provide Scholarships, Short Courses, and other training opportunities.

About the opportunity

The Deputy Team Leader (DTL) is a senior position with broad leadership, management, representational and technical advisory responsibilities. The role will provide leadership and guidance to the Program team on core Awards activities whilst concurrently directly managing the Australia Awards Bangladesh program and leading the Bangladesh country team. The DTL will provide strategic support to the Team Leader, including through inputs to planning and reporting processes and documentation.

Position reports to: Team leader
Location: Dhaka, Bangladesh
Contract type: Full Time, Fixed Term contract until 30 June 2024 with possibility of extension

About you

Substantial previous experience in a leadership position on a scholarship program, preferably Australia Awards
Demonstrated strategic understanding of the Australian aid program and familiarity with DFAT priorities, policies and processes
Strong understanding of the Australian tertiary education sector
Excellent writing skills, including the ability to edit reports prepared by others writing in English as a second language
Outstanding presentation and communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated capacity to lead teams sensitively and successfully in a cross-cultural environment
Demonstrated ability to perform to a high standard in a challenging (developing world) environment and to adapt and respond to rapidly changing circumstances
Proven capacity to work to tight deadlines with competing demands

This is an international adviser position. The remuneration package for a successful candidate who needs to relocate to Bangladesh includes mobilisation/demobilisation and paid accommodation, and visa sponsorship is provided. However, Bangladeshi candidates who meet the selection criteria to a high standard are also encouraged to apply.
