The Australia Awards South Asia & Mongolia program is funded by the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and implemented by Scope Global. It is a multi-country program covering Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka through service delivery offices in Colombo, Dhaka, Islamabad, Kathmandu, Thimphu and Ulaanbaatar.

Australia Awards are provided to build the skills and knowledge of individuals so that they can contribute to their country’s development and support the ongoing development of links between Australia and the countries to which it provides aid. Australia Awards are an important part of the Australian Government’s focus on public and economic diplomacy, and provide Scholarships, Short Courses, and other training opportunities.

About the opportunity

The Senior Manager – Communications & Engagement (SMCE) is a senior position with broad strategic, management, representational and technical advisory responsibilities. The SMCE has strategic oversight of the Program’s communications and public diplomacy functions; is responsible for the effective positioning and presentation of the Program in the media and on social media; and is the custodian of the Australia Awards brand in South Asia and Mongolia. The SMCE additionally leads the Program’s engagement with its scholars and with alumni.

Position reports to: Team leader
Location: Australia: Adelaide Office or Home-Based
Contract type: Full Time, Fixed Term contract until 30 June 2024 with possibility of extension

About you

Formal academic qualifications in Communications, Public Relations or another field relevant to these Terms of Reference
Substantial senior-level experience in the field of Communications and/or Public Diplomacy within the government, non-profit or development sector
Outstanding ability to write effectively and accurately in a range of genres and for a range of media, including digital media
Demonstrated ability to edit, within tight timeframes and to a very high standard, communications materials, texts and other documents prepared by second language writers of English
Excellent presentation and verbal communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated capacity to lead teams sensitively and successfully in a cross-cultural environment
Demonstrated ability to set priorities, manage a number of tasks simultaneously, and deliver outputs to specified deadlines and quality standards
Strong client focus
Infectious enthusiasm and “can do” attitude
